“Throw it in the Bag”
I’m trying my best to make changes that will impact my life and Mother Earth.
Taking it slow and understanding the reasons it is important for me to incorporate the changes have helped a lot. So be easy with me because I’m not perfect and slip up from time to time.
First you make the decision to change and then you do small things one day at a time.
I will say one of the easiest things I did was investing in reusable bags. I’m really good with taking them to the grocery store I just have to remember to take them into clothing stores.

I keep reusable bags in my car at all times. I usually do my shopping for the week on either Saturday or Sunday. Once I take everything out of my bag on I put the bags back in the car.
Even if I forget I have so many reusable bags that I could survive with what is left in the car.
I not only use the bags for grocery shopping I use it for everything. If I need to keep some extra clothes in the care I throw them in the bag. When I take snacks for long trips or outings around the town I throw it in a reusable bag.
I do need to do much better when shopping in stores such as Target or at the mall. I almost always forget to get them out the care. I have opted out of having my things bagged in this case.
There are many reasons that some states are banning the use of single use shopping bags. The benefits definitely outweigh any convenience we can think of.

4 Reasons to use reusable shopping bags
- Environmental Impact – Each time you use a plastic bag you are contributing to global warming/climate change
- Degradation – It can take up to 1,000 years for a plastic bag to degrade/decompose
- Money – Most stores offer you a discount when you bring your own bag. It takes $5000 to recycle 1 ton of plastic bags (if they get recycled at all)
- Ecosystem – Can cause harm birds, fish and other sea/wildlife

Once I understood why making small changes was important for my family and that we could make a change I had to implement using reusable bags. I will say this again be kind with yourself when you are making changes to anything in life. It is hard and easy to say forget it… but let’s remember that we are not only doing this for us but for every generation after us.
