Organizing a Small Linen Closet
I live in an older home and most of my closets are small, including my hall linen closet. Although it is small it is the place I store all of our linens. Living with small spaces it is important that everything has a place. These space-saving tips will hopefully help you organize a small linen closet.
Tips to Organize a Small Linen Closet
I have been trying to declutter and clean a different space each weekend in my home. The linen closet was in dire need of organization. Our home does not have any closet or storage in the full bathrooms. So, the hall linen closet is the place for it all.
It is not the easiest to declutter and organize because it holds so much. But it is necessary, in order to bring some peace in the space.

The picture shows you what I saw every day and ignored it. I can’t think of the last time I took the time to organize it.
How to Organize a Small Linen Closet
- Declutter: Remove everything from the closet. Yes everything. When you do this you will be able to see what you have and declutter based on what you actually need. This part took me the most time to do. I had to see everything that I had and then determine what we should keep. I made separate piles: Keep, throw away, and donate.
- Clean: Wipe down the closet. If your closet is anything like mine in really needed a good cleaning.
- Paint/Wallpaper: This is a great time to add some personality to the closet. You can add a fresh coat of paint or even add some wallpaper to the back walls/shelves.
- Organize: This is when you would group like items together. Like hand towels together.
- Storage: Let’s think about if you want to add storage containers to help keep things organized. I added some bins that I already owned to hold some sheets and wash cloths. You can also get really fancy and add labels to your containers.
